5402 – Maritime Industry Trainer Update Course

Course Description:

This course is designed for individuals who have successfully completed OSHA course #5400 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for the Maritime Industry and are active Outreach Training Program trainers. The course updates the OSHA Maritime standards, policies, and regulations. Upon course completion students will have the ability to demonstrate continued professional development in their field by applying effective adult learning principles and interactive training techniques to clearly identify, define and explain maritime industry hazards and acceptable corrective measures as they continue to teach the 10- and 30-hour Outreach Training Program classes. Minimum student contact hours: 18

Students must successfully completed:

OSHA #5400 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for the Maritime Industry. Authorized OSHA Outreach trainers are required to attend this course once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status. Prior to registration, students must provide a copy of their current Outreach Training Program trainer card or an official transcript from the respective OSHA Training Institute Education Center to verify Outreach Training Program trainer authorized status

Update Prerequisite Form

Prerequisite Policy:

The purpose of this policy is to inform students of the options regarding submission of prerequisite information.

All students participating in a Train-the-Trainer course are required to present and receive approval of the prerequisites for verification showing eligibility to attend a trainer course prior to registering for any trainer courses.

Students are solely responsible for providing sufficient supporting documentation to prove eligibility and receiving approval of eligibility prior to registering for any trainer course. 

If the prerequisite form is denied for any reason, and the student has elected to register, prior to receiving approval of eligibility, then the tuition paid for the course will be refunded, and a 25% cancellation fee will be assessed.

No certificate or trainer cards will be issued without prerequisite submission and approval, and payment of course fees.

 

Course Objectives:

  • Describe the most current process, requirements, recommendations, and resources for the OSHA outreach trainer program.
  • Upon the successful completion of this module, participants will be able to incorporate effective planning and delivery techniques into their 10- and 30 hour Outreach Training Program offerings.
  • Discuss updates in OSHA’s Maritime Standards and policy since 2005
  • Participants will be able to identify the most common hazards and explain corrective action surface preparation and preservation.
  • Participants will be able to identify the most common hazards and explain corrective action for shipyard fire hazards, both land-side facilities and aboard vessels.
  • Participants will be able to identify the most common hazards and explain corrective action dealing with toxic and hazardous substances and air contaminates and much more…

Cancellation Policy

Registration fees are assessed in accordance with USF OSHA Training Institute Education Center cancellation rules.  All fees are subject to change without prior notice.  USF OSHA Training Institute Education Center will make every effort to advertise all changes to policies and fees as promptly as possible when such changes occur.

A cancellation fee equal to 25% will be assessed for all cancellation requests, regardless of the reason for the request.

The request for cancellation of the registration must be provided in writing (fax or email are acceptable) and must be received (not postmarked) at least 10 business days prior to the start date of the course for which the student is requesting cancellation.

If the request for cancellation is received more than 10 business days prior to the start date of the course, the student may elect either to send a substitute or to request that the funds be transferred to another course without penalty.

If the request for cancellation is received less than 10 business days prior to the start date of the course, a substitute student may be sent.  However, transfers and refunds are not available during this time period; and all funds paid for the course will be forfeited.

If a transfer is requested, the course elected must begin within six (6) months of the original course start date.  A transfer can only be requested one (1) time.  A $18 transfer fee will be charged.

If the student elects to register for a course less than 10 business days prior to the start date of the course, and thereafter, finds that attendance will not be possible, the student may elect to send a substitute student.  However, transfers and refunds are not available during this time period; and all funds paid for the course will be forfeited.
