3085 – Principles of Scaffolding

Course Description:

This course covers the requirements for safe construction and use of scaffolding using OSHA’s construction scaffold standards as a guide. Course topics include hazards associated with scaffold design, assembly, disassembly and use, types of scaffolds, determining scaffold capacity, employee qualifications and training and maintenance, repair and inspection requirements. Students will participate in workshops to reinforce concepts of safe scaffolding. Upon course completion students will have the ability to identify the types of scaffolds and their components, determine safe assembly, use, and disassembly and recognize common violations of OSHA standards. Minimum student contact hours: 22

Prerequisite:

All students participating in this course are required to provide the following items: Hard Hat, Safety Boots, Safety Gloves and Eye Protection

Prerequisite Policy:

The purpose of this policy is to inform students of the options regarding submission of prerequisite information.

All students participating in a Train-the-Trainer course are required to present prerequisites for verification prior to the beginning of the class for which they are scheduled or would like to attend.

Students are solely responsible for proving sufficient documentation by the Friday prior to the beginning of the course. The prerequisite information must be approved by noon (12:00 P.M.) on the Friday before the start of the course.

If the prerequisite form has not been approved by noon (12:00 P.M.) on the Friday before the start of the course, the student will be considered ineligible to attend the course and will be subject to the following:

If a student has registered and paid for the course, but the prerequisite for was not approved by the time stated above, the student’s registration will be cancelled, the tuition paid for the course will be refunded, and a 25% cancellation fee will be assessed.

If a student provides all of the prerequisite information and has been approved, but has not registered and paid for the course, the student has until lunch time (NOON) of the first day to submit payment to remain in the course.

No certificate or trainer cards will be issued without prerequisite submission and approval, and payment of course fees.

Cancellation Policy:

Registration fees are assessed in accordance with USF OSHA Training Institute Education Center cancellation rules. All fees are subject to change without prior notice. USF OSHA Training Institute Education Center will make every effort to advertise all changes to policies and fees as promptly as possible when such changes occur.

A cancellation fee equal to 25% will be assessed for all cancellation requests, regardless of the reason for the request.

The request for cancellation of the registration must be provided in writing (fax or email are acceptable) and must be received (not postmarked) at least 10 business days prior to the start date of the course for which the student is requesting cancellation.

If the request for cancellation is received more than 10 business days prior to the start date of the course, the student may elect either to send a substitute or to request that the funds be transferred to another course without penalty.

If the request for cancellation is received less than 10 business days prior to the start date of the course, a substitute student may be sent. However, transfers and refunds are not available during this time period; and all funds paid for the course will be forfeited.

If a transfer is requested, the course elected must begin within six (6) months of the original course start date. A transfer can only be requested one (1) time. An $18 transfer fee will be charged.

If the student elects to register for a course less than 10 business days prior to the start date of the course, and thereafter, finds that attendance will not be possible, the student may elect to send a substitute student. However, transfers and refunds are not available during this time period; and all funds paid for the course will be forfeited.

USF OTIEC and the USF Office of Continuing Professional Development reserve the right to cancel classes due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of such cancellation, only the registration fee will be returned to the registrant. USF OTIEC and the USF Office of Continuing Professional Development will not be responsible for any travel expenses incurred in case of class cancellation. Classes are confirmed at least two (2) weeks prior to the start date.
